Letter to a Grandparent: January 16
Create an entry in your visual journal in which you write and design a letter to a grandparent. You may wish to tell them why you admire them, you may want to explain advice they've given to you in the past that has been helpful to you. If you have not met a grandparent, write a letter to your grandparent describing what you think they might be like. Use this visual journal entry to inform your grandparent portrait you are working on in class.

Daily Routines: January 9
Take notes of all the tasks/procedures you complete within a day. For example: wake up 7:45, brush teeth 7:30, pick out clothes 7:32, eat breakfast 7:42, walk to school 8:00, etc. Write down at least 40 different procedures/routines. After writing down your routines, choose an image that relates to a routine and layer it over your written notes. You may complete the imagery with any art material.

Unconventional Drawing Tools: December 19
Create a visual journal spread using an invented drawing tool. You may tie charcoal to pens, pencils to the end of sticks. Take a walk outside and find an organic object to make marks with. Your visual journal spread can be representational or abstract. Have fun with this prompt and don't be afraid to play!

Collage Re-Interpreted: November 14
Design a collage on one side of your visual journal spread. On the other side of your spread re-create the collage using an art material of your choice. You may simply re-draw the collage realistically, you may render the collage using marker, colored pencil, watercolor, or use a combination of materials.

Exquisite Corpse Collaboration: November 7
Create an exquisite corpse drawing in which 6 people have contributed. Fold over your pages so that each builds off of the work of the person before them. The imagery does not have to be representational, it may be abstract if you desire. Prompt your participants in your vision for the journal spread.
